Drilling contractor KCA Deutag said yesterday its platform services division had won its first contract in Canada, a multimillion-pound deal with a subsidiary of US oil firm ExxonMobil.
Aberdeen-based KCA Deutag added the drilling operations and maintenance services contract for the Hebron platform would start with an estimated three-year pre-operations phase.
This will be followed by a nine-year operations and maintenance programme, with an option to extend.
KCA Deutag said the expansion into eastern Canada was a key strategic success and capitalised on work carried out by RDS, the group’s rig engineering and design division.
RDS has been carrying out the front-end engineering and detailed design of the Hebron rig facilities since 2010.
KCA Deutag offshore president Rune Lorentzen said: “The award of our first contract in Canada by ExxonMobil Canada Properties is an excellent result.
“We look forward to continuing to develop a strong working relationship as we work on this project together.”
