Oilfield services giant Aker Solutions has landed a £1.4billion project to support a giant project in Africa – just a day after the scheme got the go-ahead.
Total confirmed on Monday it was pushing ahead with the Kaombo oil project off the Angolan coast, after shaving more than a fifth off the £9.5billion cost of the project.
Now the first beneficiary of the scheme, which will produce more than 115,000 barrels per day, has been revealed after Aker picked up a deal to provide subsea production systems for the project.
“This is a landmark contract and further strengthens an important relationship with a key partner,” said Aker Solutions chairman Øyvind Eriksen
“It’s a significant commercial achievement for our subsea business as well as an important strategic development in our expansion in Angola and the broader region.”
The Kaombo project is one of the world’s largest subsea developments, situated around 150kilometres off the coast of Angola.
French giant Total aims to develop six of the 12 discoveries already made on the block, which is thought to contain around 650 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Aker will provide 20 subsea manifolds and 65 vertical subsea wellsets, along with controls and tie-in systems for the development, which is scheduled to begin delivery by the middle of next year.
The firm has established a joint venture with local oil group Prodiaman to develop facilities and staff in the country for the Kaombo project and increase their presence in Angola.
