Oil major Shell is celebrating after making a sizeable deepwater gas find off Malaysia.
The Anglo-Dutch outfit said its Rosmari-1 well, around 135km off the Malaysian coast, has discovered a gas column of more than 450m.
Now the company is looking to open up the prospect further, after a series of finds in Malaysian waters, to explore the potential of the region.
“This adds to Shell’s sequence of recent exploration successes in Malaysia, with these discoveries expanding the company’s heartlands positions,” said the firm’s chairman in Malaysia, Iain Lo.
Shell said the discovery, drilled to a depth of 2123m, indicates further gas potential on the block, which is now due for further exploration.
Shell is operator of the block, alongside partners Petronas.
