Energy industry engineering group McDermott has struck an exclusive deal to operate a North Sea spool base from next year as it looks to return to the region.
The Houston-based firm will get exclusive rights to operate a spoolbase for offshore oil and gas projects from Hartlepool port.
The deal with PD Ports will give the firm a launchpad as it prepares to return to the reel-laying sector in the North Sea.
“This agreement for the spoolbase is an important milestone towards supporting McDermott’s re-entry into the North Sea market,” said McDermott vide president for subsea, Tony Duncan
“We look to combine the prime location of the Hartlepool spoolbase for quick access to project sites with McDermott’s high standards, and high-performance Reel-Lay capabilities provided by our Lay Vessel North Ocean 105.”
The new spoolbase facility is due to open for projects by early 2015.
