The 2014 Fifa World Cup is just weeks away and television viewers around the globe are relying on Scottish involvement to make the feast of football unforgettable.
While Scotland’s footballers never made it to Brazil, Glasgow-based temporary power firm Aggreko will be there to make sure there are no TV blackouts spoiling the show.
Aggreko is limbering up for the competition with confidence, having already powered a host of big events.
It is the name behind generation systems used at the Glastonbury music festival, 2010 Fifa World Cup and 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The firm has also worked behind the scenes to guarantee a continuous power supply at major golf tournaments, US presidential inaugurations and Eurovision Song Contests.
Aggreko’s work in Brazil next month will help to make sure football fans around the world can tune into the action from all 64 matches, thanks to direct media feeds from 12 stadiums to Rio De Janeiro’s International Broadcast Centre (IBC).
The firm will be installing both power and temperature control systems to the IBC and each of the stadiums, making sure there is no disruption for a massive global television audience.
Aggreko will also be providing primary power to the stadiums’ big screens, relaying the action on the pitch.
Pablo Varela, general director, Aggreko Brazil, said the competition was another opportunity for the company to showcase its abilities and experience of handling big events.
He added: “We are honoured to have been selected as the tournament’s official temporary power suppliers.
“Over the years we have had the opportunity to demonstrate time and time again the value we bring in terms of consistency and reliability.
“Having successfully delivered solutions to some of the world’s most iconic sport events – nine summer and winter Olympics, five World Cup tournaments and several Formula One races – our customers trust in our ability to deliver flawlessly every time”.
