Work to plug an oil well on a North Sea platform amid fears it could start leaking has been completed.
CNR International began work to seal the well on board the Ninian Central platform last week.
Last night, a spokeswoman said no oil had leaked into the sea during the operation.
She added: “I can confirm that as a result of issues identified during planned well integrity testing on the Ninian Central platform, well intervention work to plug the well has been successfully carried out.
“It is expected that the platform will return to normal manning levels over the course of the next few days.”
Non-essential workers were immediately flown off the rig, located in the northern North Sea, around 100 miles east of Shetland, as a precaution so the work could be carried out.
The planned “down-man” reduced the number of people on board from 172 to 79.
The Health and Safety Executive and the Department of Energy and Climate Change were both informed of the incident.
