Noreco’s wildcat well has come-up dry.
The well was drilled about 15km north of the Norne field in the Norwegian North Sea.
Initial outlooks looked promising but the independent exploration firm failed to make a decent recovery. Instead the well, which was drilled to 4000m below the seal level, carried only traces of petroleum in the Lange formation and Båt group.
This was the first exploration well drilled under production licence 484, which was awarded in 2007.
Bredford Dolphin, which drilled the well, has now been mobilised to drill a further appraisal well under production licence 359 for operator Lundin Norway.
