The UK government is looking to ease the tax regime for the oil and gas sector in a bid to maximise investment and stimulate North Sea economic recovery, claims the Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
Danny Alexander opened the second day of Oil & Gas UK’s conference by confirming an industry-wide consultation on a fiscal review, due to be published next month, which will set out the number of tax breaks and field allowances for the sector.
The Secretary also announced the name for the new sector industry regulator – Oil and Gas Authority – and confirmed it will be based in Aberdeen.
Energy Voice spoke to him about the implementation of the Oil and Gas Authority and whether the government’s plans for the industry would change if Scotland went solo.
