Eni Norge has signed a framework agreement with DNV GL for the provision of inspection services on the Italian firm’s Goliat platform in the Barents Sea.
The three-year contract, allowing for a two-year extension, covers planning and inspections of static equipment, load-bearing structures and offloading and anchoring systems aboard the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit during its operational life.
Goliat, which Eni holds a 65% interest in as operator, is the firm’s first field developed in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea, and holds an estimated 174 million barrels of oil and eight billion standard cubic metres of gas.
It is due to start production in mid-2015.
The FPSO unit is also one of the biggest industrial projects ever undertaken in the northern part of the country.
The company is hoping the DNV GL contract will create spin-off effects to reinforce its Norwegian operations.
