GE confirmed it won’t seek out a bidding partner to counter a possible rival proposal from Siemens and Mitsubishi Heavy for Alstom SA’s energy business.
The firm said it was confident its $17billion offer was an attractive package.
GE vice chairman John Rice said: “We don’t think we need a partner in the context of our bid.
“We feel really good about the way the process is working, and interactions that we had with the government.”
Siemens and Mitsubishi will decide whether to submit a proposal to Alstom’s board of directors by June 16. One option being considered is for Mitsubishi to buy Alstom’s steam turbine and grid business and Munich-based Siemens to get the gas turbine operations, people familiar with the matter said.
GE’s offer has been languishing for months as French leaders push for better terms and more guarantees.
Alstom has previously urged French officials to accept GE’s offer amid investor uncertainty as time drags on.
