Centrica boss Sam Laidlaw has ruled himself out of the running to take the top job at the troubled oil and gas explorer, BG Group.
Laidlaw, whose departure from the owner of Scottish Gas is expected to be announced within weeks, has indicated that he is not interested in the BG role, it has been reported.
The vacancy at the helm of BG emerged last month when Chris Finlayson was pushed to resign after overseeing a series of profit warnings which saw the value of shares drop by over a fifth in the month.
Laidlaw, who has been Centrica’s chief executive since 2006, was linked with the BG role in 2012, and was reported to be in talks to take the job.
BG, which employs 500 on and offshore in Aberdeen, is now understood to have found a preferred candidate to replace Mr Finlayson from outside the UK. The identity of the new boss is likely to be confirmed at the end of next month when the FTSE-100 company announces its second quarter results.
At the same time senior BP executive Iain Conn is expected to be appointed as Centrica’s new boss.
BG and Centrica both declined to comment.
