Energy services giant Technip has been awarded a programme management consultancy (PMC) contract for the Refinery And Petrochemicals Integrated Development (RAPID) project in the state of Johor, Malaysia.
The contract with Petronas, for an undisclosed sum between $340-680million, includes overall project and site management and provision of project management services for specific engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) packages throughout all stages of the project.
Expected to have a capacity of 300,000 barrels per day, RAPID will supply naphtha and liquid petroleum gas feedstock for the petrochemical part of the complex, as well as produce gasoline and diesel for European makets.
The refinery is due to start up in early 2019.
Technip’s new PMC deal follows from a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for RAPID, awarded in March 2012.
“This award confirms not only our leadership in the refining and petrochemical sectors, but also the successful start-up of Technip’s new business unit dedicated to PMC,” said Nello Uccelletti, Technip’s president and chief operating officer for onshore and offshore.
“Leveraging our experience gained over several decades, including the management of large-scale projects, we have developed a comprehensive competency in project management and an experienced management team”.
