Engineering giant Amec has taken possession of its latest office in Aberdeen at a new business park in the south of the city.
The firm’s chief executive Samir Brikho yesterday cut the ribbon at its new office at the City View business park.
The office is the firm’s 10th in the north-east and its third at the business park, which was developed by Knight Property Group.
The firm’s latest office will house more than 350 engineers and support staff.
Brikho said the expansion was due to major wins in its North Sea business.
“There’s no question the industry is going through a number of challenges,” he said.
“In the last year we have acquired quite a lot of new clients we have not had before – whether it is Nexen, Taqa, Enquest, GDF Suez – you name it we have a full bouquet now of the operators.
“This development is a sign of the success our oil and gas business in Aberdeen over a sustained period and how we intend to continue to serve our customers.
“It is an excellent place to work and is well positioned with great views of the city – our people deserve it.”
The firm is also a major partner to BP, with current projects including work on BP’s £4.5billion Clair Ridge development west of Shetland.
This latest building is Amec’s third pavilion on the City View site with the first two already fully occupied by Amec teams working on major brownfield oil and gas projects. In total about 700 people will work in the three Amec pavilions.
Amec employs over 3,000 people in Aberdeen on and offshore, delivering brownfield and asset management services to the oil and gas industry in the North Sea and globally.
In February the firm posted a 3% rise in full-year profit and a record-breaking order book.
The company also firmed up its £1.75billion acquisition of rival Foster Wheeler, in what is thought to be a wave of consolidation in the industry as clients such as major oil producers seek to cut costs.
