Energy giant Centrica is hoping to finally find a replacement for its departing chief executive as the head of refining at BP steps down.
Iain Conn is leaving the British oil major after 29 years with the company and will be replaced by BP’s chief operating officer for fuels Tufan Erginbilgic.
Former chairman and chief executive of engineering and construction firm Fluor Corporation Alan Boeckmann will become BP’s non-executive director with immediate effect.
“Working for BP for the past 29 years has been a wonderful experience and my time working with BP’s customer-facing businesses since 2007 has been both challenging and greatly satisfying,” Conn said.
“It has been a privilege to lead the very capable Downstream team in its achievements and to help shape BP’s agenda in key geographies.”
He has been named as the most likely replacement for departing chief executive at Centrica, Sam Laidlaw, after the latter officially announced his resignation from the board earlier this year.
Laidlaw, who has been Centrica’s chief executive since 2006, was in turn linked with a chief executive role with BG, but has since denied interest in the position.
He was also named a possible candidate for the role of the chief executive of the upcoming industry regulator, the Oil and Gas Authority, due to launch in autumn this year.
Centrica has now confirmed is has been in continued discussions with Conn over the position.
Laidlaw “remains firmly focused on leading Centrica until his successor is in place,” the company added in a statement.
