French engineering giant Technip has added a new subsea construction vessel to its fleet in an official ceremony in Bergen.
The North Sea Atlantic joins Technip after two years in construction, following the signing of a long-term charter agreement with manufacturers North Sea Shipping in 2012 for an advanced new build construction vessel.
The multi-purpose vessel is capable of undertaking pipelay, subsea construction and inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) projects, with a 550 Te active heave-compensated crane and a 2,000 Te underdeck carousel on board.
It will be used primarily for North Sea work, but is also suitable for deep-water operations worldwide, with its first project due to start next month in the Norwegian North Sea, before moving into the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS).
“We are delighted that the North Sea Atlantic is joining our fleet of specialized vessels, which further expands our capabilities on offer to clients,” said David McGuire, vice president of Technip’s marine operations organisation.
“We would like to thank North Sea Shipping for their excellent co-operation throughout the construction phase and look forward to seeing the vessel delivering projects in the field.”
