Plans for a Teesside centre for skills, leadership and innovation in emerging technology sectors have been given the green light by the UK Government.
The Darlington-based National Horizons Centre (NHC) is a partnership between Teesside University, the Centre for Process Innovation, Darlington College, Darlington Council and C-STATE, the Centre for Subsea Technology Awareness Training and Education.
The NHC proposals are earmarked for Local Growth Fund support and aim to help develop the industries which are set to transform the UK economy, including biologics, industrial biotechnology, subsea engineering and digital.
Tees Valley Unlimited, the Local Enterprise Partnership for Tees Valley, recently secured £90.3million from the Government’s Local Growth Fund to support economic growth in the region.
The £30million NHC project has been allocated £17.5million and is scheduled to become available from 2016.
The proposed NHC is intended to complement a new national business hub which is being created at Teesside University’s Darlington campus.
