The latest drill in the 30-well development programme of the Goudron field in Trinidad has been hailed as the best one so far by its operator, Leni Gas & Oil (LGO).
The electric logs in well GY-667 have shown the presence of 219 feet of net oil pay in the Gros Morne Sandstone, including a thick sandstone interval of 130 foot at a depth of 2,596 feet measured depth.
The data indicated the sandstone at the well was at primary pressure and was therefore expected to give “excellent” free flowing oil production.
Additionally, the Lower Cruse Sandstone in GY-667 was found to be cleaner and better developed than seen in nearby wells, with a total of 28 feet of net oil pay encountered in two distinct layers.
“Well GY-667 appears to be our best well so far in the drilling campaign and has a really excellent oil pay in the Gros Morne,” said Neil Ritson, LGO’s chief executive.
“The rig will now move to the final location from the current pad and spud the fifth well of the program, following which we will be able to put on production this well along with the others on the pad.
“We are very encouraged by the results we are obtaining at Goudron and look forward to the rest of this year’s drilling there.”
The well will now be cased as the rig moves to drill on the final well on the pad, the GY-668.
