Oil and gas services giant Petrofac has won an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract with Petronas worth “more than $500million”.
The deal with Malaysia’s state oil company’s subsidiary PRPC Refinery and Cracker Sdn. Bhd. covers a package in Petronas’ Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang.
The project is set to consist of a 300,000 barrels-per-stream-day refinery and will supply naphtha and liquid petroleum gas feedstock for the RAPID petrochemical complex, as well as producing a variety of refined petroleum products, including gasoline and diesel.
RAPID is part of the bigger Petronas Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) and is set to launch by early 2019.
Petrofac’s work scope includes three sulphur recovery units, two amine regeneration units, two sour water stripping units, liquid sulphur storage units and a sulphur solidification package unit.
“This award represents another significant step in building our capability in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Subramanian Sarma, managing director of Petrofac’s onshore engineering and construction business.
“Malaysia is a core country for us, PETRONAS a key customer and we have a substantial physical presence in the country to support our ongoing projects and future aspirations.”
