Senex Energy’s Australian wildcat has paid off after returning a commercial discovery.
The Martlet-1 exploration well in PEL 104, 1.8 kilometres south east of the Warhawk-1 exploration well was designed to evaluate the oil of the Namur sandstone. It has good oils shows in the target reservoir and evaluations show a net pay of six meters. The well is being cased and suspended for production next quarter.
Elsewhere, the Squire-1 well was drilled to evaluate the oil potential of the Tinchoo Formation, with secondary targets in the Birkhead Formation and Wimma Sandstone. The oil shows failed to make a decent return. The well has since been plugged and abandoned.
Hathi-1, 8km north-west of the Cleansweep oil discovery in PEL 100, will see the arrival of EDA Rig 4 which is a further exploration target in PEL 514.
More details on the drilling program will be provided in the company’s September report. [fre
