The latest well drilled in the Pegasus West prospect returned a commercial gas find.
The joint venture between Centrica, Atlantic Petroleum and Third Energy Offshore is located in the southern UK North Sea near the Cavendish Field.
The Pegasus West well was drilled with the Paragon 391 jackup rig in a water depth of about 95 feet.
Atlantic Petroleum, which has a 10% interest in the licence covering the appraisal well, confirmed the gas find today.
Chief executive Ben Arabo said: “We are excited with the results of the well so far and looking forward to the results of the drill stem test. If testing is successful, this will help to de-risk a future Pegasus development. This well is part of a programme that we have matured and built up over the last few years. We are now unlocking the potential of our UK Southern Gas Basin acreage and will be adding further wells in the area 2015.”
Centrica Energy acts as operator with a 55% interest in the licence and Third Energy Offshore owns the remaining 35% stake.
