The UK offshore oil and gas industry’s flagship safety initiative Step Change has confirmed its newest recruit to its leadership team.
Chief operating officer of Fairfield Energy Limited, Ian Sharp, will take over from Ken Robertson as the safety organisation’s operator co-chair.
Mr Sharp has most recently been co-chair of the Workforce Engagement Support Team (WEST) and the Workforce Engagement Group.
He has been a member of the Step Change in Safety Leadership Team since 2008.
Mr Sharp said: “This is an exciting time to take on this important role and I look forward to working with all of my colleagues on the Leadership Team as we ensure that our key safety messages are clear and easy to understand, that they engage with people across our industry and that they lead to sustained improvements.”
Les Linklater, team leader of Step Change in Safety, commended the work done by outgoing co-chair Ken Robertson.
He said: “It is our pleasure to have Ian as a co-chair of Step Change in Safety.
“He has been an active and engaged member of the organisation for a number of years and his passion for safety will ensure engagement of the entire workforce remains at the heart of everything we do.
“As outgoing co-chair, Ken Robertson has played an admirable role in the ongoing transformation of Step Change in Safety.
“Both he and Ian show great commitment to making our industry safer to work in.”
