Genel Energy has hit oil after drilling a well on the Sidi Moussa Block off the coast of Morocco.
The discovery was made by the oil and gas explorer along with its partners San Leon and Serica Energy.
Cased hole testing will now be done on the SM-1 well which has a total depth of 2,825Mmdbrt (measured depth below rotary table).
Oisin Fanning, San Leon executive chairman, said: “Testing the SM-1 well aims to evaluate the structure and its hydrocarbon potential as much as possible at this stage of early exploration, and we look forward to updating the market with the results once these are available.”
San Leon said it expects total well testing costs to be around $22million.
