Karoon Gas Australia has taken possession of the Olinda Star semi-submersible drilling rig from Petrobas.
The rig, which is currently in the Campos Basin, is expected to be on location in the Santos Basin within the next few days.
A spud date for the Kangaroo-2 appraisal has been set for November 2.
Karoon Gas said the Kangaroo-2 appraisal well has been designed to confirm the size of the oil discovery in the region, the presence and size of a possible gas cap, and the reservoir continuity and flow rates.
The information will form the basis for the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) phase.
The Kangaroo-2 appraisal well is located approximately 300 metres up dip from Kangaroo-1 and will test the thick reservoir sequence observed in all surrounding wells.
It is anticipated that a 350 metre plus gross hydrocarbon column will be intersected in this well.
