Technip has been awarded an engineering and procurement contract by Sasol for eight furnaces at its ethane cracker and derivatives complex in Louisiana.
The award is for proprietary Ultra Selective Conversion (USC) furnaces which will be used at Lake Charles in the Southern state.
The company’s operating centre in Houston will execute the project.
It comes after Sasol picked Technip’s proprietary ethylene technology and FEED for the cracker, which will produce an estimated 1.5million tons per annum of ethylene.
Stan Knez, senior vice president of Technip Stone & Webster Process Techology, said: “Following the selection of our ethylene technology during the early stage of this project, Technip is pleased to expand our role by supplying the most critical part of the cracker, the furnaces.
““In addition, Technip’s North America region also is playing a significant project role, having been selected, with Fluor, to provide engineering, procurement and construction management for the cracker and derivatives complex.”
Since the acquisition of Stone and Webster process technologies in 2012, Technip has widened its range of services, reinforcing its position in the downstream business.
USC coil technologies have been installed in 60 furnaces in the past 10 years.
Last month, Technip confirmed a 12% dip in its third quarter results.
Europe’s largest oilfield-service provider recorded a net income of EUR132million ($160million) compared to last year’s EUR150million. Despite the dip, the service company is still on track to hit its earnings targets for this year and next.
