Technip has entered a contract deal to supply its proprietary ethylene technology and process design package (PDP) for a grassroots cracker in a US-based petrochemical complex.
The technology will be used for the proposed ASCENT (Appalachian Shale Cracker Enterprise) complex, which is currently being evaluated by Odebrecht and Braskem in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
The deal comes after Technip’s announcement at the beginning of the week that it had been awarded an engineering and procurement contract by Sasol for eight furnaces at its ethane cracker and derivatives complex in Louisiana.
Technip said this project, which will use ethane from shale gas, will produce ethylene to be used in polyethylene plants.
The company’s operating centres in Houston, Texas, California and Rome will be used to execute the final stage of the project.
Stan Knez, senior vice president of Technip Stone & Webster Process Technology, said: “We are pleased to reinforce our long-term relationship with Odebrecht and Braskem by providing a leading technology and PDP for this world-scale cracker.
“As the largest ethylene licensor and contractor, Technip looks forward to bringing its experience to this important project in the Appalachian region.”
In a joint venture with Odebrecht and ICA Flour, Technip is also providing engineering, procurement and construction services for the Etileno XXI petrochemical complex in Mexico, which is being built by Braskem-IDESA.
