Libya’s biggest oil field Sharara is expected to resume production after gunmen stormed the site.
Director of oil movement at the Zawiya refinery and oil port Mansur Abdallah confirmed the armed attack and said the gunmen left after stealing cars.
He also confirmed production was expected to come back on line in due course.
The site was producing 290,000 barrels of day before it was shut down in the wake of the attack.
The country, which is gripped by political unrest, used to produce 1.6million barrels of day before the fall of Muammar Qaddafi in 2011.
Production has since fallen to as low as 215,000 barrels a day.
