Engineering support services company Babcock International said yesterday it had completed its second walk to work (W2W) contract for Total Exploration and Production UK.
W2W systems allows oil and gas workers to cross from boats on to platforms by foot.
Babcock said more than 18,000 people were transferred this way under Total’s central North Sea contract between march and September.
“This is a record for any single W2W project in the central North Sea,” the group added.
The project allowed Total to complete commissioning activity on the Elgin B and West Franklin wellhead platforms, which form part of the West Franklin phase two project about 150 miles east of Aberdeen.
Total client representative Anderson Foster said, “Total is delighted with the outcome of this project.
“Babcock’s approach allowed us to accommodate up to 78 personnel in the field within normal offshore rotas.
“It provided safe access to our offshore assets for completion of construction and commissioning activities.”
The contract followed an earlier W2W project for Total, completed in 2013.
