Glacier Energy Services has merged its pipeline machining and onsite service businesses into a new division as it expands across the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
The firm, which has operational bases in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Newcastle and Singapore, has appointed Mark Derry, previously head of Glacier’s offshore division, to run the new unit.
Glacier has also appointed Kevin Strachan as regional manager for the Middle East, based in Dubai, for the newly formed Roberts Machining Solutions.
Scott Martin, executive chairman of Glacier, says: “Mark’s appointment as MD of Roberts Machining Solutions is a key move following his work at the helm of our original offshore division, as we grow the combined business in the Middle East and Asia Pacific, building on their domestic success in the UKCS.”
Mr Derry said: “There is massive potential across the Middle East and Asia Pacific, where we are already delivering solutions for major capital projects which play a key role in delivering to the energy needs of the region.
“We recently secured a significant contract to provide Roberts machines to two closely-linked projects in the region – the construction of the Dampier to Banbury gas pipeline; and the major Wheatstone subsea project which feeds into the pipeline from the Carnarvon Basin.”
General & Technical Flooring services, based in Bucksburn, has appointed John Morrison as managing director.
Since joining the specialist flooring firm, which was established in 1994, Mr Morrison has been instrumental in already growing business by 30%, resulting in staff numbers increasing from 12 to 19 to meet increasing demand from clients.
Mr Morrison said: “General & Technical has enjoyed significant growth since I have joined the company, and we forecast that revenues will double over the next year. We will continue to expand the business, by further engaging with key sectors such as education, hotels and leisure and the manufacturing industry, ensuring that we maintain the excellent reputation of the company throughout the north-east.”
Systems integration firm, Elite Control Systems has opened an office in Aberdeen and appointed James Eadie as Field Sales Engineer.
The new office at Arnhall Business Park in Westhill will allow the Livingston-based firm to provide oil and gas customers in the region with solutions based upon its specialist process control, automation and information technology software.
KPMG has recruited Moray Barber as a partner, who will join the firm’s Aberdeen office to work alongside head of tax, Martin Findlay.
The big four accountancy firm has also promoted Emily Young, who specialises in audit for oilfield services and upstream exploration and production clients, to director. KPMG said its Aberdeen practice has seen its staff numbers grow by 20% in the last year.
Aquamarine Power Chief Executive John Malcolm has been elected to the board of Ocean Energy Europe.
