Statoil has been granted a drilling permit for well 6706/12-2 in the Norwegian North Sea by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
The well will be drilled from the Transocean Spitsbergen drilling facility.
The drilling programme for well 6706/12-2 concerns the drilling of a wildcat well in production licence 218.
The area within the licence consists of block 6706/12 and part of block 6706/10, about six kilometres northwest of the Aasta Hansteen field.
Statoil is the operator with an ownership interest of 51%.
Wintershall Norge AS has a 24% share, OMV Norge AS has a 155 share and ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS has a 10% share.
This is the fifth well drilled in the licence and the permit is contingent on the operator having secured all other permits and consents required by other authorities before the drilling starts.
