A US oil, gas and water treatment firm has announced a 12-month joint industry project in the Middle East.
Houston-based ProSep has launched an Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF) joint industry project (JIP) with Qater Petroleum and Petroleum Development Oman.
The scheme kicked off in December last year and will see the three companies collaborate on an offshore capable unit for oil-in-water removal and media regeneration.
The project will be carried out using ProSep’s Osorb Media-produced water treatment technology, which absorbs free, dispersed and water soluble hydrocarbons.
It also absorbs oilfield chemicals from produced water.
ProSep will evaluate the performance of Osorb Media using capture and regeneration cycles on specific water streams.
As the project comes to an end, a commercial unit – commissioned for three months – will be brought into the target process for further trialling in order to adapt the technology into the field.
Chief executive of ITF, Patrick O’Brien, said: “This project marks the first truly collaborative ITF-sponsored JIP between two national oil companies in the Middle East.
“We are delighted to facilitate this collaborative technology development in the Gulf Cooperation Council and look forward to seeing the results that ProSep achieves.”
Middle-east ProSep general manager, Ryan McPherson, said: “Our Osorb Media technology offers significant benefits to operators for the treatment of produced water for re-injection or discharge.”
