Total has spudded exploration well 25/6-55 in the Norwegian North Sea.
The well, named Shango, is in licence PL 627 in the northern part of the Utsira High around five kilometres from the Skirne field.
The primary target is the Middle Jurassic Hugin formation reservoir and Shango is located on the spill-route from the Skirne field which is producing above expectations.
Faroe Petroleum, which has a 20% stake, said a fast-track subsea development to the Skirne field is planned if the prospect is found to contain a similar gas and condesate hydrocarbon type.
The Shango exploration well, located in around 120kilometres of water, is being operated by Total (40%) using the Leif Errikson drilling rigs with parntners Centrica Resources Norge AS (20%) and Det norske oljeselskap AS (20%).
