An Aberdeen firm set up by two entrepreneurs has completed a survey of its promising gas field in Australia.
Warrego Energy, founded by Dennis Donald and Duncan MacNiven, expects to drill the West Erregulla field at the end of this year or in early 2016 following completion of the seismic survey.
The company undertook significant preparatory work to ensure the site’s cultural and botanic heritage is preserved.
Local botanists walked the equivalent of over 550 miles to inventory protected flora within the survey area. To ensure that any sites of cultural significance within the survey area would be identified and protected, a heritage survey was undertaken by the traditional owners the Amangu native title claim group in conjunction with Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Association.
Warrego, which last year raised £21million from their Dutch joint venture partners, Dyas and Mazarine, has also committed to acquiring a significant parcel of land that will be used to preserve the flora and fauna in the area and to offset any environmental impact of the joint venture’s activities.
Mr Donald, managing director of Warrego Energy, said: “The rigor displayed in seismic preparation highlights the engagement and commitment of Warrego and its partners to Western Australia, the traditional owners, local stakeholders and the environment.
“The business partners fell in love with WA while working in a previous business. Predicting the emergence of the Perth Basin they set up Warrego to embrace the opportunities that are now rapidly emerging.”
