Lundin Petroleum has achieved first oil from the Bertram field in Malaysia.
The Swedish explorer said its subsidiary, Lundin Malaysia, has commenced production from four pre-drilled development wells.
The remaining production wells will be drilled sequentially and put onstream throughout the rest of the year.
Lundin said the field’s gross plateau is expected to be at a rate of around 15,000 barrels of oil per day.
Ashley Heppenstall, chief executive of Lundin Petroleum said: “Bertam is our first development project in Malaysia and as such we are very pleased to have achieved first oil safely, on schedule and within budget.
“The Bertam project is an excellent example of how fast-track projects can be developed through close collaboration between ourselves, PETRONAS Carigali, PETRONAS and our contractors.”
Lundin Malaysia has a 75% working interest and PETRONAS Carigali is a partner with a 25% working interest.
This is Lundin Petroleum’s third project to be put into production over the last four months.
