Energy service firm NorSea Group (UK) said yesterday it was expanding its activities to take in the “small piece” decommissioning market.
It revealed it had already secured a “major” decommissioning contract, serviced through its deepwater support base at Smith Quay in Peterhead, and was actively tendering for other opportunities in this growing sector of the market.
The Norwegian-owned firm gave no further details of the new contract, which coincides with a new senior management team being set up to lead the company’s growing activity across Scotland.
Walter Robertsonhas been appointed managing director, while Mike Munro becomes the company’s first operations director.
Mr Robertson – a former player, coach and chairman of Deveronvale Football Club – previously worked for Aberdeen-based oil and gas logistics firm Asco Group, where he spent 28 years in management roles.
Mr Munro – previously of Total Exploration and Production, Qatar Petroleum and Peterson (United Kingdom) will be responsible for all operational activity at NorSea Group (UK)’s logistics bases in Aberdeen, Montrose, Peterhead and Scrabster.
NorSea Group (UK) said he had a “wealth of marine and logistics experience” at senior level on projects in the UK and overseas.
The firm added it would make further announcements about additional appointments to the executive team within the next few weeks.
Mr Robertson said: “Despite the current market conditions, we are excited about the opportunities for growth and development.
“We are principally known as an offshore logistics and base services company, supporting the oil & gas and renewables sectors, however, we are expanding our areas of activity, with a strong focus on the small piece decommissioning market.”
The company was established as the UK wing of its Norwegian parent, NorSea Group, in Aberdeen in 2013.
Last year, it swooped to buy Danish offshore logistics company Danbor, including operations in Aberdeen and Montrose, in a £25.5million deal.
