The Buzzard oilfield, which plays a role in pricing global crude exports, was shut down on Thursday after a glitch, operator Nexen said today.
Nexen confirmed that a “controlled shutdown took place on the Buzzard installation, following a process upset”.
“We are continuing to inspect and monitor the situation on the platform as per our normal procedures.”
“Normal operations are expected to resume, once all checks have been completed.”
In June, Buzzard was shutdown due to a power outage.
Buzzard, the UK’s largest oilfield, is the single biggest contributor to the Forties crude stream, one of the four crudes underpinning the price of dated Brent. It normally pumps at about 170,000-180,000 barrels per day.
In September 2014, the Buzzard field was temporarily shutdown following a system fault.
