A union has urged offshore caterers to agree to a new pay offer – but if it is rejected workers will “immediately begin preparing for strike action”.
Unite is recommending its members vote in favour of a new pay deal, which includes increases in the offshore delay payment from £40 to £75 and introduces a payment for workers who take on training for emergency duties out of their normal working hours.
The previous offer for catering staff was rejected and this new proposal was brought forward.
A letter to members on the new contract by Unite’s regional officer John Boland says: “The offer although not having a percentage pay increase on salary this year does, however, mean significant increases in uplifts and more importantly protects and enhances terms and conditions.”
Unite have recommended workers approve the latest offer and workers have until Friday to cast their vote.
But the letter adds, if members decide to reject the offer, Unite will “immediately begin preparing for strike action”.
The letter says: “Whatever the outcome of the ballot we would expect all Unite members to stand by that demographic decision, so it is important you have your say and cast your vote.”
The letter also congratulates the work union members have taken to improve their terms and conditions of employment.
It says: “The campaign you have assisted with and the action you have been willing to take is what has secured your existing terms and condition and won improvements.”
