An Aberdeen firm whose owner collapsed into administration is still going strong after winning a £1.5million contract in Nigeria.
Project Development International (PDI), a provider of multi-discipline engineering services, secured a deal to deliver technical support to a Chevron project through Nigerian oil service company Marine Platforms.
PDI’s owners Ceona, which also accounted for about 30% of the Aberdeen firm’s income, went into administration in September.
PDI’s latest contract is thought to be in addition to a further £6million of new business it said it won this year.
Marine Platforms (MPL) appointed PDI to support onshore and offshore installation engineering activities in Chevron’s Agbami Field, the largest deepwater development in the Niger Delta. The project is due for completion early in the second half of 2016.
MPL recently chartered the Polar Onyx, a pipe-lay vessel formerly leased by failed Ceona but owned by Norwegian shipping firm GC Rieber. It has also hired other project equipment to execute the offshore installation activities, with PDI providing the onshore and offshore installation engineering support.
The agreement involves PDI working alongside the Nigerian firm’s engineering team in their Lagos office to provide both project and structural engineering services, as well as installation analysis and offshore support. PDI will also provide support in pre-commissioning, survey, geotechnical and procurement when required.
PDI has worked with MPL for more than five years on numerous international engineering workscopes, supporting and delivering on projects including Agbami Jumper Installation, Bonga Jumper Installation and BOOR Recovery.
Taofik Adegbite, chief executive at MPL said: “We have established a strong working relationship with PDI and value the dedicated teams, engineering support and track record here in Nigeria.”
Mark Gillespie, managing director at PDI said: “We are still operating in a very challenging global market, but by combining expertise and understanding where there are opportunities to collaborate on projects of this nature, we are succeeding in progressing our biggest asset – our highly skilled and knowledgeable team of engineers.”
