Terra Nova Energy said it has spudded the Baikal 1 well in Southern Australia.
The company said the start of operations from the Baikal well had been completed using the Eastern Well 101 rig.
Chief executive of Holloman Energy Mark Stevenson, a partner in the project, said: “We are pleased that the operations for the Baikal #1 have begun and we are looking forward to the findings.
“The reduction in the cost of drilling services has benefited this well and will benefit future wells.”
The well, which is at a depth of 629metres, is said to be progressing well.
