The Health and Safety Executive has served two improvement notices on Centrica relating to the Central Morecambe platform in the East Irish Sea.
The notices are understood to have been issued following routine inspection and focused on inspection processes, rather than any specific incident.
A notice issued on November 18 required Centrica to put in place suitable arrangements for the inspection of the integrity of small bore tubing assemblies and also to put in place arrangements to ensure that persons carrying out work on such assemblies are competent to do so. This is due for compliance by April 19.
The second notice served on December 14 required the company to draw up a new verification scheme for safety critical elements and specified plant that clearly describes the assurance activities, examination and testing activities and the frequency at which these are to be carried out.
This was served following an inspection which found that although there was a verification scheme in place that this did not correctly address these issues.
A Centrica spokesperson said: ““Keeping our people and the environment safe is the most important thing we do, and we have immediately put additional plans in place to meet the concerns raised by the HSE.”
