Lundin Petroleum said it has made an oil discovery in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) after completing the Rolvsnes exploration well.
The well, located in PL338C, is south of the Edvard Greig field in the central North Sea.
It encountered a gross oil column of 30 metres with pressure data and oil type indicating that the petroleum system is in communication with the Edvard Greig South discovery made by
Lundin in 2009.
Further studies are expected to be carried out to incorporate all the findings and establish future planning, such as the potential drilling of an extended reach from the Edvard Greig platform with an associated long-term production test.
The well, which was drilled using the semi-submersible drilling rig Bredford Dolphin, will now be plugged and abandoned.
Lundin Norway is the operator of PL338C with a 50% working interest.
The partners are Lime Petroleum Norway with a 30% working interest and OMV Norge with a 20% working interest.
