Wood Group today confirmed it had replaced a dozen Aberdeen external accounts posts with Indian staff.
The move, which is thought to have saved the company hundreds of thousands of pounds, includes moving Wood Group PSN’s external accounts service for four regions, including the UK, to Delhi.
A Wood Group spokeswoman said: “Wood Group has adopted a financial shared service centre model with hubs in Aberdeen, Houston and Delhi. Following a full review of our current services, we are moving Wood Group PSN’s external accounts payable service for the UK, Caspian, Russian and Africa businesses to Delhi from January 2016. We have consulted with all members of staff potentially impacted.”
Staff were originally told their jobs were at risk in November.
Annual salaries for the staff in Delhi are believed to be as little as £1,000.
A “decline in production, increased costs and reduced efficiency” were all credited for the change.
