Tanzania said it has finalised a land acquisition for the site of a planned LNG plant.
Work is now underway to compensate and resettle villagers as the country looks to move forward with the project which has suffered from delay.
Natural reserves in the country are estimated to be more than 55 trillion cubic feet with the central bank estimating two percentage points could be added to the annual economic growth of 7%.
BG Group, Statoil, ExxonMobil and Ophir Energy all plan to build the onshore LNG export terminal in partnership with Tanzania Petroleum.
The aim is for it to start-up in the early 2020s.
Tanzania’s new president, John Magufuli, has promised more urgency in decision-making after complaints from businesses.
