Nigeria has lost more than 130million barrels of crude oil since the beginning of this year after a spate of attacks by militants in the Niger Delta region.
The figure was revealed by the vice chairman of the Security Subcommittee of the Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS) of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
It comes as the Minister of petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, said the President’s petroleum industry roadmap would help to stabilise the region for the oil and gas sector.
Between January and November this year, 59 incidents of sabotage have been recorded where oil and gas facilities have been attacked.
An estimated 32 militant groups have emerged in the Niger Delta region since the resurgence of the military.
Of 275 cases of kidnappings recorded across 29 states this year, 45 cases were related to oil and gas industry personnel and their dependants.
