The Saipem 12000 drillship is on its way to drill the RD-1 well in Morocco.
The vessel is expected to arrive in 10 days, with drilling to start soon after.
Italian firm Eni operates the permit where the well is located and has a 40% stake.
The announcement was made by London-based Chariot Oil and Gas, which holds 10%.
Woodside Energy has 25% and ONHYM is on 25%.
