BW Offshore said today that the first development well had been completed at the Tortue field, within the Dussafu license, offshore Gabon.
Drilling started in January 2018 and was completed on schedule and within budget, the Oslo-listed contractor said.
The well was consistent with the “pre-drill prognosis”.
The Borr Norve drilling rig will now move onto an appraisal well to the north-west of Tortue.
BW chief executive Carl Arnet said: “I would like to congratulate our project team for reaching this important milestone in the commercialisation of the Dussafu license.
“We are confident that our dedicated team of professionals within disciplines such as HSE, drilling engineering, geosciences, finance, supply chain and management, will continue to move this project forward in a safe and efficient manner.”
BW Energy Gabon holds a 91.667% interest in the assets, while its partner Panoro has 8.33%.
