A US temporary power supply company has signed 106 megawatts of contract extensions in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Florida-based APR Energy’s Morro Bento plant, in Angola, has been operating since November 2012 and provides crucial base load power to the country’s capital city, Luanda.
The renewals include an extension on the 40 megawatt Morro Bento power contract, taking it into 2016.
The plant, combined with their mobile turbine site in Rocha Pinto, provides 80 megawatts of electricity to around half a million people in Luanda.
The Morro Bento extension comes after 66 megawatts of APR renewals in the African region, including a term extension to the end of 2015 for its 40 megawatt cross-border contract supplying power to Mali and another providing 26 megawatts of electricity to Senegal until later this year.
Ranjit Singh, APR’s managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: “Angola exemplifies our strategy of extending and expanding generation contracts. Building upon our proven operational success, last year we doubled our generation capacity in Luanda by adding a new state-of-the-art mobile gas turbine plant, which we now follow with an extension of our Morro Bento site.
Our term extensions in Angola, Mali and Senegal are customer endorsements of APR Energy’s ability to deliver sustainable, reliable, efficient and affordable electricity, benefitting communities and supporting economic growth.”
The firm’s chief operating officer, Brian Rich, said: “The 106 megawattof term extensions in Sub-Saharan Africa reflect the enduring demand throughout the region for our mobile, turnkey solutions and is the result of the outstanding efforts of our people in driving operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
“These extensions further add to our contract renewal rate, which has exceeded 85% over the past twelve months. Customer renewals are a critical component of APR Energy’s business model, adding revenue stability and underpinning strong operational cash flow.”
