Wison Heavy Industries has won work to develop a floating LNG (FLNG) project for Eni off Congo Brazzaville.
Wison will construct and install a 2.4 million tonne per year FLNG unit for the Italian operator. The company has already ordered long lead items and cutting steel for cryogenic tanks, Eni reported.
This will be the second FLNG facility off Congo.
Eni bought the Tango FLNG unit in August this year from Exmar Group. This vessel had been talked about as an LNG export option for a number of countries, including Colombia and Argentina.
It will now begin producing LNG offshore Congo in 2023. The Tango vessel has 0.6mn tpy of capacity.
The addition of the Wison vessel will bring production on the Marine XII licence to 3mn tpy in 2025.
The Wison vessel will be 380 metres long and 60 metres wide. It will anchor in water depths of around 40 metres and have capacity to hold 180,000 cubic metres of LNG and 45,000 cubic metres of LPG.
Wison struck a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ABB earlier this year, on the development and implementation of FLNG projects. Wison, it said, had experience in design and construction of FLNG facilities, while ABB has insights into advanced electrical units and automation.
China’s Wison, in January this year, reported that it had won approval from ABS for its standardised FLNG vessel. The company said its standardisation efforts reduced the time for engineering by 40% and it also has lower carbon emissions.
Eni struck a heads of agreement (HoA) with New Fortress Energy in February. The companies had talked of a Fast FLNG unit, with 1.4mn tpy of capacity.
