TotalEnergies has signed up a rig from Odjfell Drilling to follow up its exploration plans in Namibia, the sister rig to that which Shell has just contracted for its work in the country.
Total made a major discovery in February 2022 with its Venus well.
Northern Ocean owns the Deepsea Mira, which is currently warm stacked in Norway. The company also owns the Deepsea Bollsta, which began drilling a well for Shell this week.
Odjfell manages the two rigs. The company said it had reached a multi-country drilling contract for the Deepsea Mira with Total.
The contract will begin in Namibia. Work should begin in the middle of the second quarter 2023, with an estimated duration of 300 days. There are two options for more work, for 180 and 90 days respectively.
Odjfell said it had begun reactivation work on the Deepsea Mira.
“Since taking on management and marketing for the Deepsea Mira, we have worked tirelessly on facilitating the vessel being operational. Agreeing this contract with TotalEnergies, the third new major client we have agreed a contract with in recent months, is very exciting for our company”, said Kjetil Gjersdal, CEO of Odfjell.
Northern Offshore said the contract added $135 million to its revenue backlog. The company is carrying out a $45mn private placing to cover reactivation and working capital costs.
Northern Offshore CEO Scott McReaken said the contract with Total “marks a new beginning for the company. We have now secured full employment of our fleet while adding over USD 250 million in backlog since August.”
