Shell has reported restarting an unspecified unit at its Scotford, Alberta, facility, according to a community information line.
Intermittent flaring is expected to last for 12 hours.
The Scotford Manufacturing Centre is located 40 km northeast of Edmonton, Alberta, and consists of an upgrader, 100,000 barrel per day oil refinery and chemicals facility.
“It is one of North America’s most efficient, modern and integrated hydrocarbon processing sites, converting oil sands derived bitumen into finished products via upgrading, refining, and chemical products,” according to Shell.
Shell Canada was forced to cut its May crude deliveries due to wildfire-related outages in northern Alberta. The wildfire forced an estimated 1.3mn b/d of production was offline in early May – the largest disruption of crude oil production in Canadian history.
