Businesses from the north-east are being urged to tap into international markets as a way of overcoming the challenges posed by the low oil price.
That’s the advice being given by the Scottish American Business Alliance (SABA) during the Houston-based advisory group’s visit to Aberdeen, which aims to encourage stronger business links between the two cities.
The SABA delegation Robert Wagner managing partner at BKD LLP, Lisa Morton, chief operating officer at Douglas Business Solutions LLC, Russell Morton systems development manager for C-Nav division at C&C Technologies are in the Granite City for a five-day informational visit, beginning Monday, June 27, to promote transatlantic relationships and remove some of the barriers faced by Scottish firms looking to operate in the US market.
A series of meetings and forums are planned with leaders of the north-east’s business and civic communities, including finance, accountancy, technology and oil & gas service firms as well as senior figures from Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council. The group will also be launching their SABA tartan in Aberdeen this week to celebrate their 3rd annual trip.
Founding Member Lisa Morton said: “There is a common perception about certain barriers to entry when exploring international markets, whether that be around legal, tax or financial matters. As part of this visit, we can reach out to a wider audience of Scottish business people and help educate firms about the support that is available to them in establishing a presence in the United States.
“Against the backdrop of the lower oil price, we are increasingly seeing an upturn in firms, particularly those focused around new technology, looking to grow into overseas markets as a way of growing their brand. By engaging with organisations such as SABA, firms can proactively create new opportunities to ensure future business success.”
Established in 2011, SABA offers practical business advice to expanding Scottish firms looking to establish a foothold in the United States. For further information visit click here.
